Whats on your mind? :P

I found something very interesting in the book that I am reading these days, “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini. Though there is nothing to comment on the genius writer, I would surely state that people in a few countries should never give a thought to man-woman equality; instead if dignity to a human is maintained, that’s more than enough 🙂

Our watan is now known as the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. These are the laws that

we will enforce and you will obey:

All citizens must pray five times a day. If it is prayer time and you are caught doing something other, you will be beaten.

All men will grow their beards. The correct length is at least one clenched fist beneath

the chin. If you do not abide by this, you will be beaten.

All boys will wear turbans. Boys in grade one through six will wear black turbans, higher

grades will wear white. All boys will wear Islamic clothes. Shirt collars will be buttoned.

Singing is forbidden.

Dancing is forbidden.

Playing cards, playing chess, gambling, and kite flying are forbidden.

Writing books, watching films, and painting pictures are forbidden.

If you keep parakeets, you will be beaten. Your birds will be killed.

If you steal, your hand will be cut off at the wrist. If you steal again, your foot will be

cut off.

If you are not Muslim, do not worship where you can be seen by Muslims. If you do,

you will be beaten and imprisoned. If you are caught trying to convert a Muslim to your

faith, you will be executed.

Attention women:

You will stay inside your homes at all times. It is not proper for women to wander aimlessly

about the streets. If you go outside, you must be accompanied by a mahram, a male

relative. If you are caught alone on the street, you will be beaten and sent home.

You will not, under any circumstance, show your face. You will cover with burqa when

outside. If you do not, you will be severely beaten.

Cosmetics are forbidden.

Jewelry is forbidden.

You will not wear charming clothes.

You will not speak unless spoken to.

You will not make eye contact with men.

You will not laugh in public. If you do, you will be beaten.

You will not paint your nails. If you do, you will lose a finger.

Girls are forbidden from attending school All schools for girls will be closed immediately.

Women are forbidden from working.

If you are found guilty of adultery, you will be stoned to death

Listen. Listen well. Obey. Allah-u-akbar.

A Small Extract….

Discussion between an employee-Mr. Nobody and The Bosssssssssssss-Mr. Somebody

Premiere:
Somebody:
Where were you on Saturday?
Nobody: Office only Sir….
Somebody: I called for you Mr.Nobody, and you were nowhere…Am I to search for you everywhere? (rhetoric question I guess)
Nobody: I, I, I was not there only during lunch hour….
Somebody: I checked your timing…you left before lunch
Nobody: But I had to meet my fiance…and in my watch it was 1 pm
Somebody: How many times have I to inform you that my watch is 2 mins behind yours…

Matinee:
Somebody: Are you done with the proofing?
Nobody: Yes Sir, here it is….
Somebody: Did you check every sentence and word..
Nobody: (chest held high, in a dramatic armyman like tone) YES SIR!!! (or may be it should have been I I SIR)
Somebody: What the Hell….(pointing to the top of the page)
Noboby: (this discussion is, again, not on his side)….What happened Sir?
Somebody: Why does every page read….”Untitled”?

Evening Show:
Somebody:What is the dress code for the Business Party today?
Nobody: I guess the meet is meant to be very professional, so the code would be black and white
(At the party)
Nobody: Oh Evening Sir, I believe you mistok what I said…(At the site of his boss wearing a zebra shirt)
Somebody: Oh Not at all, I was just confused whether it was black with white or white with black….

Late Night Show:
(After the party, Nobody calls up Somebody)
Nobody: Hello Sir, where are you?
Somebody: I am with Nobody
Nobody: But Sir, I am Nobody and how can you be with me?
Somebody: Oh I am with Somebody….
Nobody: But Sir, you are Mr. Somebody….is there some one else with the same name…
Somebody: Oh K I am with the New PR executive…..

Genius Underdog

To start with I am very proud that Dharavi is famous again. And this time nothing is negative about it. Call it the Indian heart, the core centre of Mumbai’s geography or just some cinematographic excellence. The slum dwellers have recieved a reach among world audience, much similar to the one face of India – The Taj Mahal. I don’t mean to write a review on the Hollywood meets Bollywood movie, Slumdog Millionaire; But yes I would surely love to say that I LOVED it.

One doesn’t watch a movie, just for the story line, or the tree dancing or for a melodramatic famous face. For long Indian cinema was donned by these views. But atlast the audience has become much more intelligent and craves for tasty fodder; just similar to Cricket. There was a time when we used to watch a cricket match only if India had participated, and yes if we are not victorius there alwayz used to be bisleri bottles on the stadium. Coming back to our crorepathi, I just loved the way little Jamal drained in shit, holding Big B’s pic in his hand runs towards Amitabh..yelling Amitabh Bacchan…or may be “Amitabachan”. I specially love the way these kids hang out from the roof of a running train (A daily experience atleast in Mumbai). I was dumbstruck when Jamal says that the Taj Mahal is a Five Star hotel. I apreciate the way, both the kids Salim and Jamal grew up, so tied up to each other still with totally opposite characters. May be the Call centre thing was a little blown up, but thats fine, since the shades of bollywood would reflect somewhere or the other. So finally saying that I liked the movie, I would love to list the Categories in which SlumDog has been nominated in the Oscars. They are as follows:
1. Cinematography

2. Directing

3. Film Editing

4. Music (Score)

5. Music (Song)- Double Nomination for the songs “Jai Ho” and “O Saya”6. Best Picture

7. Sound Editing

8. Sound Mixing

9. Writing (Adapted Screenplay)

Woooowwww…hope core Bollywood movies enter such an elongated list some day.

Lastly though we are talking so much about this great movie, there has been 2 other entries in the Documentary Short film category…both having shades of our nation:

1. The Final Inch directed by

Irene Taylor Brodsky and Tom Grant – Its a film contributing to the global efforts to eradicate polio worldwide, dedicated individuals in India travel throughout the country urging parents to vaccinate their children against the disease.

2. Smile Pinki directed by Megan Mylan – Pinki, a girl in rural India whose cleft lip has made her a social outcast, has a chance for a new life when she meets a dedicated social worker.
Hope I haven’t bored you guys with my bakwaas again, however I insist that you should surely watch this movie…its not the usual passing cloud. But please can someone tell me who were the Three Musketeers, and did anyone actually have this story in their Bal Bharathi 😉

Shaadi Season !!!

Is it very difficult to pen down whatever you think? Or is it that you never think something fruitful to be penned down? Whatever it may be, it seems as if it has been ages that I have written some stuff. Or else I have run out of topics to think about, run out of mere involvement. But this post surely is not a fill up so that my blog is updated regularly. I would try to be (again) me and only me when I write this.

The season of rains commenced well and since it has been pouring relations. Many are getting ready to tie the knot soon and many finding love. Co-incidence is that most among these categories are either my friends or relatives. Tomorrow I am to attend a cousin’s engagement. The catch in this relation is that, the girl has never seen the guy face to face. Yes, she does talk to him on the phone and does use the webcam to see him. But still never actually felt his presence. The greatest surprise is that, he won’t be present for the engagement. The fellow is somewhere in the US and will arrive a day or two before the wedding. I fail to understand, is this love, is Love possible without meeting, without having to look at each others eyes, without even a finger that will scroll down your hair. The second kind is the one where my friend, a confused piece on earth did love this guy, but had her own apprehensions and obstacles that resisted her from being herself. One fine day she realised her mistake, that love is not about only the white side, it does have a grey and black shade. And it comes with packages that do hold pain, and she is all set to face it with guts.

Of late I have also seen love fight for itself, where the alliance had to be arranged. But the families didn’t like each other much. However the bride and groom, fought back, and now they will be together in a few months time. A typical arranged marriage turning into love marriage setting. One of my best of friends, rejected this guy, donno how many times, but eventually found a soulmate in him. As for one of my relatives, the usual ponnu pakkara ceremony (thats when the family members of the groom meet the bride) took place, both of them liked each other. The engagement was fixed in the next week, and in the next two months is the wedding.

I fail to understand, what makes humans be sane as well as insane at the same time. How can one be so very sure of their decision or so very apprehensive about the same at the same time. For sure it is difficult to understand Love and its pains vice a vice joys, but everyone does fall in the trap at one point or the other. I asked one of my cousins, who soon will have a love marriage, how did you come to know that you actually love this girl, pat came the answer, “when I realised I can sacrifice anything in life for her”. Maybe the answer is filmy, but deep down in my heart I do believe that there is some catalyst that would make two hearts one.

I keep my palm open

Hands free like wings

To welcome the joy,

The bliss to feel oneness

To rejoice at a new bond

Soon the rain drops run through my fingers

To wash away the dream,

To see my eyes wet

But someday

When the sun is gay

And the earth so green

My hands will stretch out,

Search for you in a new world.

A year old Baby !!!

 F. Scott Fitzgerald once said, “You don’t write because you want to say something, you write because you’ve got something to say.” Keeping up with his views, yes I have got something to say to all my readers. I dedicate this post of mine to thank all my friends and well wishers to inspire me, motivate me as well as tolerate me in this past one year. I take great pleasure to say (infact inform) one and all that my blog “Cheers to Freedom” completes one whole year. It completes a whole year of holding my emotions and presenting it to all of you in a (hopefully) pleasant manner. The blog I thought initially was just an effort to improve my (so called) writing skills, but in time I have realised that it is a great let out……let out of what I think and believe, (a stress buster in short). People usually say “I am an open book“…..it took me a long time to realise the same, now I too can say…yup I am an open book….(read my blog to know more :P). Jokes apart…I am seriously thank full to all of you, that you read my blog and encourage me every day to write something new, something good and something that can be close to each one of us’ heart.A special thanks to Mr. John Gabriel (marketing head IMS Learning Resources Pvt Ltd.) who indirectly inspired me to write. A heartfelt thanks to Jui Chitre without whom, I would have not known what the word “blog” meant. I know this sounds like some award function speech, but to sum it all I have listed below the names of all the people who have read my blog and yes helped me WRITE so far.
